The weathered exterior of Grandma’s Place has been preserved. Who would guess that the interior has been transformed into a snug year round home? See massive wooden beams and stones salvaged from the Qing Dynasty official’s courtyard that stood on this site. Relax on the kang bed or sit in the lush garden & gaze at the Great Wall guarding this remote village.

Our newest rental home is nestled against a hillside chestnut orchard with a garden of lilacs, forsythia, long-blooming day lilies, and a lawn. There is an outdoor cooking area with gas grill and pizza oven. Inside the light and airy interior you’ll find two bedrooms and a cozy fireplace alcove with a long kang bed.

Heart’s Desire is a tranquil courtyard sheltered by a huge walnut tree and hidden behind a massive gate. All around are mountains and the Great Wall. Gather in the great room on the built-in heated kang big enough for everyone. Get warm from the dramatic fireplace. Created for a busy man to be a place that gives comfort just because he knows that it exists, Heart’s Desire is breathtakingly close to the Wild Wall with every modern comfort.

Stone Forest

Imagine lounging on the expansive kang bed watching the light play on the Great Wall as sun streams through the stained glass panels that give a joyous sparkle to Stone Forest. What was once an abandoned three-room hut with grass growing from broken roof tiles has been transformed into a rustic retreat with a romantic outdoor shower in a private courtyard sheltered by a honeysuckle arbor. Exposed stone and brick walls, huge beams, custom paneling, granite hearth.

The Pavilion was once the oldest residence in the village. Now the building blends ancient and modern designs with the old house and two new pavilions to create a comfortable two bedroom home suitable for up to 6 guests. Sit on a secluded private terrace with spectacular Great Wall views, or share an intimate evening around the sunken fireplace.

To get to Big Rock House you drive up the hill in the middle of Beigou Village, the creek & forested ridge on one side, stone walls & sturdy brick dwellings on the other, sudden glimpses of sky and Great Wall. You park on a bridge over the creek, walk up a rough path to the stone ramparts guarding Big Rock House, open the gate, & go up a ramp until suddenly the Great Wall looms and this home in its wild garden is revealed

La Petite Muraille

La Petite Muraille is the sophisticated sanctuary created by a Franco-Asian couple offering a collection of books, artworks, and fine furnishings, a tatami room for viewing the Great Wall, and a lovingly tended English garden and lawn, reflecting pond and fountain, perfect for private relaxation or for parties and events.

Sleeping Buddha Courtyard is reached by foot only through a short maze of Tianxianyu Village alleys. This home, rooftop garden, treehouse, and tiered gardens running up the hillside offer gorgeous views of the Great Wall and the incredible mountain ridge the local people call their own Sleeping Buddha. Ideal for private and safe family getaways with plenty to spark the imagination of both adults and children.

Originally an ancestral temple for a village family, the Red Door is a comfortable retreat where kids can relax in the living room while watching a movie on the flat screen TV by the fireplace and grown ups cook in the adjacent spacious gourmet kitchen. From the massive slab of native slate guarding the entryway to the sky-lit interiors to the Great Room that seems to float in the treetops, Mumanyu was created by a family that wanted a very private retreat at the Great Wall, a place for their far-flung clan to gather that would be close to nature and also engaged with the village community around it.
